Anticarsia irrorata QQJD (Fabricius, 1781)
Query: Probably a new species (J.Dugdale 1999)
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Lepidoptera; NOCTUIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: Medium moth (17-20mmTL) of different intensities of brown, ranging from buff to blackish brown.
Fore wings characterised by diagonal line from wing apex to approximately middle of rear edge, and row of black dots between line and wing edge; kidney shaped cell patch about half way along wing. Hind wings with continuation of diagonal line and similar subterminal dots. Underside with wavy line and outer row of black dots, sometimes edged in white; white cell spot about half way along wing. Colour of Head, Thorax, Abdomen, Legs and Antennae similar to wings.
GENERAL NOTE: Caterpillar and host not known; adults collected at light in upland forest.
