Biodiversity Database Update History

This database is an ongoing programme. The data is upgraded every six months (June and December). Because the update might affect species or lists of species you have downloaded we have provided a system to check for basic changes in scientific/binomial names, thumbnail images, descriptions, and (eventually) significance notes.

Note:
The totals in the table are for all Cook Islands species including those thought to be extinct.

The columns show the types of data being measured. Binomials are new ( zB ) for a new species added to the database, and upgraded ( zupB ) for a change in the main binomial of a species. The basic multimedia for a species is either new ( zM ) or upgraded ( zupM ).

The rows shows the update number: 02 = original web database March 2003 (with data finalized in 2002!); 03a = update January-June 2003; 03b = update July-December 2003; etc.

The blue numbers in the cells show the number of changes. For example, the cell zB at 02 was 3,863, showing the number of binomials/species listed when the database was launched; and cell zB for 03a was 28, showing that new species were added in January-June 2003; and cell zupB ( up for upgraded) for 03a was 11, showing the binomials/species that were upgraded in January-June 2003.

Searching for Changes

The upgrade data is shown in the Images and All Names result display view and on the species page. To find the species/multimedia/descriptions added or upgraded use the table above and combine the column and row headers, for example:  zB02, zM02, zD02, zB03a, zM03a, zD03a, etc for new data; and zupB04a, zupM04a, zupD04a, etc for upgraded data.

To search for new or upgraded species data type the appropriate column+row headers into the 'names or names' text box on the Search Page. For example:

1. zB03a finds new binomials/species added at the June 2003 upgrade demo;
    
2. zupB03a finds basic binomials upgraded at the June 2003 upgrade demo
    
3. zM - finds all species with an image demo
    
4. zupM03a - finds all basic images upgraded at the first upgrade demo

We hope the various combination find everything you need to know about the changing data. Of course, we used the unusual "z" prefix hoping that your input text would not find a species by one of its names - well, except for zupMroo!
