Argina astrea (Drury, 1773)
SYNONYMS: Argina cribraria
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Lepidoptera; ARCTIIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: Medium moth (12-15mmTL); wings orange with scattered black white-margined spots.
Fore wings orange with symmetrical wavy lines of black spots between front and rear edge. Hind wings background colour orange; fewer black spots, mainly larger and irregular shape. Underside similar to upper surface. Head, Thorax and Abdomen as wing colour. Thorax has black spots. Abdomen orange, black spots along each side. Legs as body colour. Antennae thin, brown.
GENERAL NOTE: caterpillar on foliage of rattlepod, Crotalaria. Adults diurnal, usually abundant.
