GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: India - Indonesia / Australia - Cooks - Austral Islands; Land, lowlands

KEY FEATURES: Medium moth (17mmTL) buff with a longitudinal streak on fore wings and pearly white hindwings.

SYNONYMS: Mythimna (Acantholeucania) loreyimima (Rungs, 1953) [according to CSIRO]

TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Lepidoptera; NOCTUIDAE. COMMENT: It is unclear if Cooks has Leucania/Mythimna loreyi and Leucania/Mythimna loreyimima [=Leucania stenographa] - GMcC 7/2005

More Information

IDENTIFICATION: Medium moth (17mmTL) buff with a longitudinal streak on fore wings and pearly white hindwings. Fore wings more or less oblong, pallid with a central (discal) brownish streak from base to apex becoming paler towards terminal edge; a single dark dot at 1/3rd wing length and a white dot at about half wing length, discally. Hind wings pearly white on both surfaces , fringe white, minute black spots terminally on veins. [???Forewing?] underside with greyish brown streaks and terminal dots. Head and Thorax brown. Abdomen and Legs greyish brown. Antennae dark brown, threadlike.

GENERAL NOTE: Caterpillar on grasses, particularly kikuyu-like grasses; body buff with a rather hazy subdorsal line, head capsule with a "greek chi" mark dorsally
