General Information

COMMON NAMES: Silver Tabebuia, Tree-of-Gold, Silver Trumpet-tree; German Ipé-Bäume

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Evergreen tree to 8m. LEAVES opposite, compound, digitate. LEAFLETS 5-7, oval to narrow-oval, to 20cm, without teeth, leathery, silvery grey-green, stalklets long. FLOWERS large terminal clusters; bell-shaped with 5 rounded lobes, pale to bright yellow. FRUIT narrow cylinder to 15cm. SEEDS winged.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Tabebuia donnell-smithii has leaflets underside hairy (vs. without hairs); edges toothed (vs not toothed); tip sharp (vs. rounded); stalklets short (vs. long).
