COMMON NAMES: Airplant

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Ngāngā‘ere Toka (RR)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Madagascar

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers and leaves

KEY FEATURES: Upright succulent to 100cm. LEAVES in rosettes; opposite; lanceolate to 20cm; greyish-green, ± turning purplish; round teeth; plantlets on leaf tips. FLOWERS stalked clusters; dangling, lantern-like, to 40mm; sepal-tube rosy-red, 4 sharp lobes; petal-tube yellow flushed orange-red, 4 sharp lobes curved back.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Air Plant (Kalanchoe pinnata) has upper leaves with 3-5 leaflets.
