General Information

COMMON NAMES: Peale's Dolphin, Blackchin Dolphin, Peale's Black-chinned Dolphin, Southern Dolphin, Peale's Porpoise

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE central-south Chile

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Rare Vagrant, Non-breeder; Marine, pelagic, off-shore

SIMILAR SPECIES: Dusky Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus) occurs off Peru and in New Zealand. It lacks the dark chin (back to level of eye), the brilliant white patch in armpit of pectoral fins, and the lateral grey streak extending onto the top of head.
