General Information

COMMON NAMES: Greater Amberjack, Allied Kingfish; French Seriole Couronnée

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Paru Komuri (PL), Palu Kōmuli (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Circumglobal, (incl. Indonesia - Marquesas, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to n.NZ

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, deepbottom, pelagic to 350m+, sometimes visits outer reef-slopes

KEY FEATURES: To 190cmSL, depth ~4 in SL. Bluish-green above, ± amber midside stripe, white below; ± dark stripe or cap from upper lip to 1st dorsal; Tail and other fins dark, Pelvics white front-edge. Face rounded; upper jawbone ends under eye; Pectoral shorter than head length; tail lunar-like; without scutes; grooves above and below tail base; Anal less than 70% base of 2nd Dorsal; without finlets.
