General Information

COMMON NAMES: Sage, Common Sage, Garden Sage; French Sauge

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE n.Mediterranean coast - n.Africa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Leaf 1+) Cond

KEY FEATURES: Shrubby herb to 45cm, usually shorter. LEAVES opposite; silvery-green & hairy with a bubbled surface; long-oval to 10x5cm, ±sharp tip. FLOWERS in lateral clusters; purple; tubular, the top lobe hood-like over the bottom lobe; sepal cup reddish-green & persistent. FRUIT. SEEDS small black.
