General Information

COMMON NAMES: Redgill Emperor, Spotcheek Emperor, Red-ears, Redgill Emperor, Redgilled Emperor, Red-eared Emperor; French Lethrinus à Tache Rouge, Bossu Rond

TRADITIONAL NAMES: ‘Īroa (RR)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Marquesas; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, outer reef-slope, sand & rubble 10-150m

KEY FEATURES: To50cm. Uniformly silver or mottled brown, oval with long snout & thick lips. Edge of gill covering above Pectoral fin has a small red spot.
