General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellowtail Scad, Finlet Scad; French Selar Queue Jaune

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Societies, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native - likely but no evidence; Marine, near-shore to 50m

KEY FEATURES: To 30cm, depth ~3 in SL. Additional eyelid has narrow vertical slit; black blotch on gill-cover. Blue-green above, silvery below; fins pale, 2nd Dorsal ±yellowish, and Tail greenish-yellow; in life 9-10 broad dark bars on body. Last ray of Dorsal and Anal finlet-like (partially separated) in larger fish. Shoulder girdle (under gill-cover) without papillae.
