General Information

COMMON NAMES: Silver Pompano, Buck-nosed Trevally, Goldfin Permit, Moonfish, Snubnosed Pompano, Snubnosed Dart; French Trachinote de Bloch, Pompaneau Lune

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Yoke (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Samoa; n. to s.Japan; s. to Norfolk

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, Adults outer reef, juveniles reef-flat & estuarine

KEY FEATURES: To 75cm SL, Depth ~2 in SL. Silvery-grey above; silvery-white, turning golden-orange with age; without scutes on hind lateral line, and Pectoral Fin shorter than head length. 1st Dorsal spines short without membranes (except when very young). 2nd Dorsal and Anal with long anterior lobes; 2nd Dorsal, Anal, Pectoral and Tail grey or dusky-orange, darkest on the lobes.
