General Information

COMMON NAMES: Blackfin Hogfish, Blackfin Pigfish; French Labre Barré

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE se.Asia - Tuamotus; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, lagoon and seaward reef, 3-40+m.

KEY FEATURES: To 45cm SL. Oval with pointed snout. Body orange-red above, pearly white below, head yellow; ~15 pale blue spot-and-dash on body. Pelvic fin, lower edge of Anal fin, tail & tail-base black; Pectoral and Tail fins unmarked and transparent; Pelvic Fins black. Large males becoming red-brown.
