General Information

COMMON NAMES: Smalltail Wrass, Pencil Wrass; French Labre à Ruban Bicolore

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Societies, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, lagoon & outer reef-slope, 10-60m over rubble

KEY FEATURES: Males to 12cm (tp), females to 9cm (ip). Females - red-orange, paler underside. Males - green above, blue stripe above a yellow stripe at mid-body, lower body pale blue; dark blue chin-throat. Cheeks green with two blue stripes behind the eye. Tail with a terminal black mark edged in blue.
