General Information

COMMON NAMES: Fourmanoir's Basslet

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Christmas (Indian) - Pitcairn; n. to Marianas; s. to Cooks.

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, lagoons, outer reef-slope, 5-44m, secretive

KEY FEATURES: To 4cm, depth 3 in SL. Body & tailbase with wide dark bands (approx. 3-4). 1st Dorsal with long protruding spines; 1st Dorsal with large black spot; 2nd Dorsal & Anal have mirror image dark spots at their posterior bases. 2nd Dorsal, Pectoral, Pelvic, Anal, tail clear. Scales large.
