General Information

COMMON NAMES: Round-body Daddy-longlegs

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mangamanga (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: pantropical & subtropical (incl. Samoa - Marquesas)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native?, Introduced?; Land, lowlands and inland; mainly in buildings

KEY FEATURES: xxx BodyL: CEPHALOTHORAX: nearly round, projecting forward and down from eyes. A deep median longitudinal groove behind eyes. A dark band the width of eye region extends almost to posterior margin. Three pairs of dark spots lateral to median band. ABDOMEN: Globular, white with grey spots. LEGS: Extremely long and slender, several times body length. EYES: Eight in two lateral groups of three, between which are two small eyes. WEB: An irregular tangle of the type called a cobweb.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Artema is much larger, and Modisimus is much smaller.
