General Information

COMMON NAMES: a daddy-longlegs

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mangamanga (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: pantropical (incl. Tonga - Pitcairn)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced; S.Group - common; N.Group - common; Land, lowlands - mountains; mostly on/in buildings

KEY FEATURES: xxx BodyL. CEPHALOTHORAX: Roundish, truncate behind, extending downward in front of eyes. Two vertical brown lines below eyes in front, brown median band from eyes to rear margin, brown lateral margins. ABDOMEN: Elongate, twice or more as long as wide, with median rows of paired brown spots forming incomplete chevrons, and lateral row of about four brown arcs on each side. LEGS: Extremely long and slender, four or more times body length. EYES: Eight in two lateral groups of three, between and in front of which are two small eyes. WEB: A tangled cobweb or delicate sheet.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Pholcus ancoralis distinguishable by color pattern and genitalia.
