General Information

COMMON NAMES: a daddy-longlegs spider, Daddylonglegs Spider

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mangamanga (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Samoa - Marquesas; s. to Australs

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native?, Introduced?; Land, lowlands - mountains

KEY FEATURES: xxx BodyL: CEPHALOTHORAX: Nearly round, whitish with lateral brown stripes and a median one covering eye region and extending to posterior margin. ABDOMEN: Long and slender 4 or more times width, whitish with a median brown stripe followed by 2 brown spots and a transverse brown bar above spinnerets. LEGS: Extremely long and slender, four or more times body length, with white rings distally on femur and tibia. WEB: A delicate convex sheet or dome. EYES: In two triads, between which are two very small inconspicuous eyes.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Smeringopus pallidus is distinguishable by color pattern and genitalia.
