General Information

COMMON NAMES: a jumping spider

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mangamanga (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: Indonesia - Pitcairn; n. to Marshalls

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native?, Introduced?; Land, lowlands - mountains; tree trunks, foliage, buildings, ground litter

KEY FEATURES: To 5mm BodyL. CEPHALOTHORAX: Dark chestnut-brown in male, lighter in female. Male with a pair of strong upcurved appressed spines arising from below and between anterior median eyes, forming a horn-like projection. ABDOMEN: Crossbanded in anterior two-thirds with two gold and one dark brown band dorsally, posterior third dark brown. Anterior gold band wider in male than in female. LEGS: Short and stocky. WEB: None. EYES: Eight in usual salticid arrangement.
