COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Polynesia; Marine, near-shore, outer reef-slope

TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; CHORDATA; GNATHOSTOMATA (Jawed Vertebrates); PISCES; OSTEICHTHYES; Perciformes; Percoidei; Percoidea; SERRANIDAE, Grammistinae. COMMENT: Sometimes placed in GRAMMISTIDAE (Soapfishes). Here placed with soapfishes in the subfamily Grammistinae (Soapfishes).
