General Information

COMMON NAMES: Oxeye Scad, Yellowband Scad

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Andamans - Marquesas; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native - likely but no evidence; no evidence; Marine, pelagic, near-shore (autumn); in schools

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food

KEY FEATURES: To 30cm, depth ~3 in SL. Additional eyelid has a narrow slit; small dark spot on gill-cover edge. Metallic blue-green above, silvery-white below; ± a broad yellow stripe along upper-half. Straight Lateral Line about 2x arched section; scutes 43-46, start under ~1st ray of 2nd Dorsal. On lower margin within the gill opening a deep groove (with a large papilla above). D VII.
