General Information

COMMON NAMES: Crimson Bottlebrush, Red Bottlebrush

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Australia; EXOTIC Widely cultivated ( including Hawai‘i, Fiji and NZ).

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Shrub or small tree to 10m, sometimes arching or pendulous. LEAVES scattered, stiff, long-oval, tip long and sharp, base tapering, to 10x2cm; lemon scented when crushed. FLOWERS near branch ends; bottlebrush of red filaments; to 12x6cm. FRUITS woody; urn-like, 9mmØ, persistent on branch. >>CHECK SUE'S FOR WEEPING HABIT<<
