General Information

COMMON NAMES: Dwarf Mondo-grass, Dwarf Lilyturf, Lily Turf, Mondo Grass

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Japan - China - Korea

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves, ground cover

KEY FEATURES: Grass-like, mat-forming herb to 15cm. LEAVES recurved, linear, to 70-150x2mm, dark-green. INFLO hidden within foliage; stalk to 100mm, flat; 1-3 flowers. FLOWER downward pointing, whitish. FRUIT blue, 3mmØ. SEEDS dark blue. (Flowers not seen in the Cook Islands, and rare in Hawaii).

SIMILAR SPECIES: Black Mondo-grass (Ophiopogon planiscapus) has leaves wider, 150x4mm (vs. 150x2mm); flowers protruding on erect stalk (vs. among the leaves)
