General Information

COMMON NAMES: Purple Tradescantia, Purple Heart

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE ne.Mexico

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves

KEY FEATURES: Sprawling succulent and brittle herb to 50cm high. STEMS purple, round, 5mmØ; long gaps between leaves. LEAVES dull, deep-purple; long oval; to 15x4cm. (parent species had green leaves). FLOWERS terminal, solitary; 2 boat-like bracts to 7cm; to 3cmØ, 3 petals, broad, pale-pink.
