General Information

COMMON NAMES: Dark-capped Parrotfish, Egghead Parrotfish, Variable Parrotfish; German Purpurkappen-Papageifisch; French Perroquet à Capuchon Sombre

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Wū Yeyenga (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cocos - Societies; n. to s.Japan; s. to GBR

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group. (RR) PLUS:; Marine, near-shore, lagoon, reef-flats & outer reef-slope, to 10m

KEY FEATURES: To 30cm SL. TP (male) body blue-green with pink scale-margins; Head, the upper-half & back to mid-Dorsal dark coloured; below eye a wide bright blue-green stripe extends to Pectoral base. IP (female) body pale-grey shading to white below with two diagonal yellow bars; Head, the upper-half dark-grey; below eye a yellow stripe extends to Pectoral base.
