General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Rarotonga)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1-island; Land-freshwater, streams, c.80m; Epiphytic on rock, semi-aquatic.

KEY FEATURES: Filmy to leafy, green, dull. Smooth to warty, more or less cracked to form 'islets'; lacking an outer-layer (=ecorticate). Gelatinous when wet. Minute rock fragments & crystals embedded. Squat flask-like sexual-spore containers (=perithecia) vary in shape. Sexual spores (ascospores) ± arranged in two rows; colourless, thin, straight to curved, to 30x8µm; with 7 cross-walls (=septa) and gelatinous sheathes.
