General Information

COMMON NAMES: Pampas-Grass, Pampas

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil - Chile

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental

KEY FEATURES: Large clumped grass, with flumes to 3m. LEAVES long, to 3m, arching, narrow and linear, sharp margins. FLOWERS large silver-white to pink flume, to 50x15cm, on stalk to 1.5m; male and female on separate plants, females silky-haired, silver to pink, male smooth and less attractive. Several colour varieties.
