General Information

COMMON NAMES: White Sapote, Mexican Apple, Wooly White Sapote; German Weisse Sapote; French Sapote Blanche

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Mexico - C.America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group only (MG - rare, formerly RR); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food fruit

KEY FEATURES: Tree to 15m, with large digitate leaves. LEAVES alternate, compound, 3-5 radiating leaflets, stalk long; LEAFLETS narrow-oval, tapering to long sharp tip, to 15cm; edges serrate. FLOWERS axillary, fragrant, small, greenish. FRUIT globose, to 10cmØ, ripening yellow-green; pulp sweet and edible. SEEDS 2-5, large and long.
