Gymnothorax monostigmus (Regan, 1909)
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; CHORDATA; GNATHOSTOMATA (Jawed Vertebrates); PISCES; OSTEICHTHYES; Anguilliformes; Muraenoidei; MURAENIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: To 70cm TL. Uniformly brown, with orange towards the rear. Distinctive large black blotch behind each eye; dark gill openings; and white mucous pores around the mouth. A very secretive moray of exposed reefs.
