General Information

COMMON NAMES: Xiphidium Lily

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Mexico - Caribbean - S.America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves and flowers

KEY FEATURES: Fleshy herb to 1m. STEM semioerect, fleshy. LEAVES alternate, one-plan, sword-like, to 40x5cm; glossy green; asymmetrical basal half, tip sharp. INFLORESCENCE terminal erect pagoda-like cluster, to 15cmØ; FLOWERS small, ~6mmØ, white. FRUIT (not seen in Cook Islands) berry with many seeds.
