General Information

COMMON NAMES: Redlip Parrotfish, Black-veined Red Parrotfish, Meadow Parrotfish, Ember Parrotfish; French Perroquet Prairie (M), Perroquet Lie de Vin (F)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu, Hawai‘i - Panama; n. to s.Japan, s. to Rarotonga

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, outer reef slope to 30m

KEY FEATURES: To 50cm SL, very wary. Snout blunt, and more bulbous with age. Forward half of IP and TP usually abruptly darker. IP slightly concave tail, reddish brown; body scales with black streaks; fins red. TP lunate tail; blue-green with pink wash on sides; teeth blue-green, upper lip pink then blue-green, lower lip blue-green then pink then blue-green; fins red-orange with blue edges.
