General Information

COMMON NAMES: Necklace Tree, Bead Tree, African Bead-tree, Snakewood, Caconier

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Caribbean - Venezuela

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group (RR only); Land, lowlands, gardens

KEY FEATURES: Tree to 20m. LEAVES compound with 7-11 leaflets, opposite+one (=imparipinnate); LEAFLETS oval to 20x6cm. INFLOR open cluster; buds with red fuzz; flowers pea-like, petals dark purple, central petal with white centre. FRUITS with brown fur; 6x4x2cm. SEEDS 1, circular, red and black.
