General Information

COMMON NAMES: pseudoscorpion

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE Thailand - Easter Island, Hawai‘i, n. to Taiwan and coastal s.China. NATIVE se.Asia; EXOTIC EXOTIC Pacific islands

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Polynesian Introduction, naturalised; S.Group - common, widepread; Land, lowlands - mountains; Leaf-litter (to 610m Hawaii, and 270m Marquesas)

KEY FEATURES: Very small, 1.2mm BL. CARAPACE bocoloured, anterior brown, posterior cream with dorsal spots on tergites 1-2 (single) and 4-9 (pair), arms (=pedipalps) all dark brown.

GENERAL NOTE: Time and mode of dispersal not known, but accidental dispersal in the soil or vegetation carried on the Polynesian voyaging canoes seems very likely (Harvey, 2000).
