General Information

COMMON NAMES: Aesop Slipper-Lobster

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Mauritius - Indonesia - Cooks, Hawai‘i; n. to Japan

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, Seaward reef, 10-100m

KEY FEATURES: To 50cm TL. Carapace c.rectangular but distinctly wider posterior half, covered in rounded tubercles, with a few prominent doral lumps. Abdomen dorsally covered with rounded tubercles, 4th segment with large dorsal protrubance. Blade-like antennae with very small teeth on margin. COLOUR yellowish with purplish-red spots; antennae with purplish edge; 1st abdominal segment with 3 diffuse purple-red spots.
