General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellow Alder, Yellow Elder, Rose Sage, West Indian Holly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Florida - Caribbean

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group only (RR only - rare); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental - flowers

KEY FEATURES: Shrub to 1m. LEAVES alternate, oval to 12x4cm, toothed; stalk short, 1cm, two glands near apex. FLOWERS axillary, solitary, morning only, short-lived, faintly fragrant, 5cmØ; petals 5, bright yellow. CAPSULES ovoid, 8mm.
