General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE ? - Rarotonga - ?

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, ?Endemic of Polynesia; S.Group only (RR - one record); Marine, near-shore, deep seaward reef-slope; specimen at 350ft

KEY FEATURES: To 12cm. Face rounded, oval with body visually enlarged by cintinuous large Dorsal, Tail and Anal Fins. Black with white spots scattered on head, and forming rows on body and fins. Pectoral fin uniform translucent brown.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Comet (Calloplesiops altivelis) has a large white-edged black eyespot on hind part of Dorsal Fin (vs no eyespot). {Comet not presently recorded in Cook Islands, but has range e.Africa - Tonga - Line Islands.}
