TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Coleoptera; ANOBIIDAE
SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: stored products. Comments: An often serious pest in processed and dried foods, and in tobacco products. Larvae often bore holes as they eat the product.
IDENTIFICATION: Very small, 2mm TL. Pale brown. Globular, with head turned strongly down. Wing-covers (=elytra smooth without lines. Antennae about 1mm. Larvae feed on dried food products; adults do NOT feed, but are active fliers esp. around dusk. Times: larvae c.2wks, pupa 1wk, and adult 2-6wks.
