COMMON NAMES: Sawtoothed Grain-Beetle; German Getreideplattkäfer

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: Circumglobal

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group; Land, in stored food

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; in stored foods

KEY FEATURES: 3mm TL. Slender dark brown beetle with 6 teeth on each side of thorax; antennae 1mm. Winged but rarely fly. LARVAE white, to 5mm.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Oryzaephilus mercator length of head behind the eye is much shorter (vs. longer). For experts with samples to compare!

SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: in stored foods. Comments: common in cereals, nuts and dried fruits. Larvae feed within the product; adults also attach the product.

IDENTIFICATION: To 3mm TL. Slender, dark brown, prothorax has 6 sawtooth-like projections on each side; antennae 1mm with terminal club. LARVAE white, elongate, partially flattened, to 5mm. Adults winged, but rarely fly.
