General Information

COMMON NAMES: Lesser Grain-borer

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: circumtroprical and subtropical

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group; Land, in stored foods

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; in stored foods

KEY FEATURES: To 4mm TL. Dark brown. Thick cylinderical body; wing-covers with punctures and short hairs; head beneath the thorax-shield. LARVAE white and parallel sided, with legs.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Dinoderus spp. and Prostephanus truncatus - separated by experts.

NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: in stored foods. Comments: Adults and larvae bore into a wide range of commodities, espeically shole grains, including rough rice.
