General Information

COMMON NAMES: Song of India, Malaisian Dracaena, Song of Bangkok [cv.], Song of Jamaica [cv.]

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Madagascar - Mauritius

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group - uncommon; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves

KEY FEATURES: Shrub-tree to 5m. Erect, slender and branched. LEAVES clothing the stems; uniform green or striped whtie or cream, lancelike, to 20x5cm; recurved. FLOWERS open cluster, often reflexed; each white within, tube 2mm, lobes 10mm long. cv. 'Song of India' is variegated - green centre, wide cream-white edges; ther are other cvs.
