General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE circumtropical

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, pelagic floater

KEY FEATURES: Its float is a flat blue disc to 2cm, with a fringe of hair-like filaments, often 2cm long. The single feeding-animal is central, and is surrounded by the reproductive individuals. The filaments are the defence and food-capture individuals (=dactylozooids) and have stinging cells.
