COMMON NAMES: Red Fly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE Malaysia - PNG - Samoa/Tonga - Cooks; n. to Micronesia; s. to Australia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowland - montane

KEY FEATURES: Thickset orange-brown fly to 6mmBL. HEAD dark red eyes edged with a white line on face; Male eyes meet topside; Female eyes well separated topside. THORAX orange-brown. WINGS clear tinged brown along front edge; veins dark. ABDOMEN orange-brown, with brown patch on top hindsection.
