General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE s. USA - Brazil / Chile; EXOTIC EXOTIC Cook Islands only

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land

KEY FEATURES: Small freshfly, 6-7mmBL. HEAD lower-face silver-grey to golden-silver. THORAX grey with 3 black stripes. ABDOMEN grey with black markings. WINGS clear. FEET with 2 pale flaps.

SIMILAR SPECIES: See under Sarcophaga peregrina. The generally similar Housefly (Musca domestica) and Skin Fly (Musca sorbens) have thorax black stripes 3 and 2, respectively (vs. 3); and they lack the pale foot-flaps.
