General Information

COMMON NAMES: Asparagus

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: Europe, n.Africa - w.Asia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent (2002 by Bill Cowan), Not naturalised; S.Group - only (RR only - rare); Land, lowlands, gardens

KEY FEATURES: Erect, feathery shrub to 150cm. TERMINAL BRANCHLETS feathery, with slendery leaves. LEAVES (=cladophylls) 3 per node, cylindrical, to 25mm. FLOWERS unisexual, 1-2 per node, minute to 5mmØ, white. FRUIT round, to 8mmØ, ripen red. SEEDS 1-few, black.
