General Information

COMMON NAMES: Rose Turmeric, Giant Plume Ginger, Robin Holly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Burma

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent (c.2000), Not naturalised; S.Group only (RR - rare); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Annual herb to 1.5m. RHIZOME thick, aromatic, roots swollen. LEAVES oblong, green to 120x30cm, tip acute. FLOWERS cone-like cluster, to 20x8cm; bracts dark green with a yellow flower; terminal bracts violet (and sterile).
