COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group (rare); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flower

KEY FEATURES: Small shrub to 1m. LEAVES alternate, with 3-5 long lobes; to 15cm. FLOWERS to 12cmØ, 1-per-axil; petals 5, red with white base, oval. FRUIT 5-angled, bristly.

IDENTIFICATION: Small shrub to 1m. STEMS hairy. LEAVES alternate, with 3-5 long lobes; to 15cm; stalk hairy. FLOWERS solitary; petals 5, turned-back (=reflexed), red with white base, oval, to 5cm; stamens for yellow colum. FRUIT 5-angles, bristly.
