General Information

COMMON NAMES: Pacific Humpback Midge

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE incl. Micronesia, Australia, Vanuatu - Samoa - Cooks - ?

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group - RR, ?; Land, lowlands; attracted to lights at night

KEY FEATURES: Minute fly, to 1mmBL. HEAD very small and under thorax. THORAX large and humpbacked, dark brown. ABDOMEN segments conspicuously overlapping; posterior segment bulbous and dark brown. WINGS translucent, length = 2x width; conspicuous inner-posterior lobe.
