General Information

COMMON NAMES: Rose Cassia, Roxburgh's Cassia, Ceylon Senna

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE s.India - Sri Lanka

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Tree. BRANCHLETS densely hairy. LEAVES compound, to 30cm; LEAFLETS 12-20 pairs, to 5cm, oblong, strongly oblique, tip blunt with notch and spike, hairless above, hairy below. FLOWERS short axillary cluster, petals small to 14mm, pink to orange; fertile, stamens 10, stalks not dilated, anthers without hairs. FRUIT cylindrical, partitions between seeds.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Resembles Pink-and-White Shower (Cassia javanica) see under that species.
