GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Honduras - Panama

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves and flowers

KEY FEATURES: Erect herb to 2m. LEAVES basal, ~8, oblong to lance-like, to 50x15cm, dark green above, purple beneath, veins in grooves; stalks ~50cm. FLOWERS on stem to 50cm, cluster to 10cm, laterally compressed overlapping bracts; flowers paired, small, white and violet, petals 3.
