General Information

COMMON NAMES: Bush Allamanda

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent (pre-1932), Not naturalised; S.Group (RR); Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Spreading shrub to 3m high. LEAVES simple, whorls 3-5, oval to 10cm, dull green, distinct vein near margin. FLOWER several in terminal clusters, bell-like tube to 7cm, inside yellow with dark stripes; 7cmØ: petals 5, spreading and ascending. FRUIT spherical, to 5cmØ, with rigid spines to 1cm. SEEDS flat and oval, brown, edge thickened.
